Promote Yourself with the Perfect Elevator Speech

So, tell me about yourself…

Let’s face it, at some point during your job search you will be asked this question. By having an elevator speech prepared, you can respond confidently.

An elevator speech should be around 60 seconds, no longer than the average elevator ride, and outline your experience and skills while sounding natural.

  1. Start by introducing yourself and what you do. If your profession is not related to the job or industry you are interested in, make sure to mention relevant projects or assignments.
  2. Dedicate a sentence or two describing your experience, education, and longevity in the field.
  3. Finish your elevator speech with how your contributions are unique. What sets you apart from other candidates?

The goal is to commit the elements of your elevator speech to memory so that you can easily modify them to fit the situation.

Although you may never actually give your elevator speech in an elevator, you’ll be ready at your next networking event or job interview!
